My grandmother used to make these cookies that were made of anise, they were rock hard, and shaped like very large shrimp. They were definitely an acquired taste. Good for dunking in your coffee or milk. She was originally from the Palermo, Sicily area. I would love to get the recipe. TIA!

Rock hard Italian anise cookie that is shaped like shrimp?
January 20th, 2011Italian Cookies with coffee recipe?
January 18th, 2011I recently had italian cookies with coffee at one of my friends house and loved the combination. Only problem is that i have no idea what type of cookie was with the coffee…
Maybe if i describe it, than i could get a little help. The cookie was very similar to a vanilla cookie and was white/tan in appearance. What was weird was that it didn’t have a distinctive taste, it was just a plain tasting cookie that you could dunk in the coffee.
I know this question seems stupid, but if anyone has any idea what i am talking about, please help!!

how do you make soft centred chewy biscotti?
November 12th, 2010In some Italian coffee shops in Sydney you can buy soft-centred (chewy) "biscotti" with a crisp outer layer. Not for Dunking they are chewy and delicious. The best ones are pistachio. They are gluten-free and i think they contain almond meal. Does anyone have a recipe for this (they are usually round not sliced.

Coffee lovers, anyone ?
October 24th, 2010I love making my own coffee at home, but tried the Colombian one and it’s too oily. The Ethiopian I’m using for the moment isn’t too bad. Have used Illy (Italian) and Carte Noir (French) before. Any suggestions to enjoy a nice cup in the morning ? Tks.
I know it’s a shame, but I don’t actually buy the beans, I get it ground already.
how do italians take there coffee?
October 23rd, 2010What happenes when a fly falls in to a cup off coffee?
October 21st, 2010The Italian man – throws the cup away and walks away in a fit of rage
The French man – takes out the fly, and drinks the coffee
The Chinese man – eats the fly and throws away the coffee
The Russian man – drinks the coffee with the fly, since it was extra with no charge
The Israeli man – sells the coffee to the Frenchman, the fly to the Chinese, buys himself a new cup of coffee and uses the extra money to invent a Device that prevents flies from falling into coffee
The Palestinian man – blames the Israeli for the fly falling into his coffee, protests the act of aggression to the UN, takes a loan from the European Union for a new cup of coffee, uses the money to purchase explosives and then blows up the coffee house where the Italian, the Frenchman, the Chinese, and the Russian are trying to explain to the Israeli why he should give away his cup of coffee to the Palestinian

What coffee maker would you suggest buying?
October 8th, 2010So I have hated coffee all my life. That is, until I went to a friends house and had a latte. She said it was because I’d only ever had instant coffee and the likes and fresh is so much better. Since then, it is my favorite drink-anything with fresh coffee-but I want to start making my own. My friend works at a little italian coffee shop in town and buys her beans from there because she gets a discount and has offered to let me use it too. She’s given me a couple of little bits and bobs that she had(such as a coffee bean grinder and a milk foamer) but now I need to buy an expresso machine. What would you suggest? I haven’t got much money but I decided it would be cheaper than constantly going to that coffee shop(£2-£3 per cup). what would you suggest is the best value. I know you get what you pay for, but I just want to know what would be the best quality machine for the lowest price that you know of. Thankyou ![]()
Bobbles on my metallic coffee maker?
October 7th, 2010I’ve got a coffee maker, I think maybe an italian expresso maker made of metal which I use to make coffee. Recently I’ve been noticing little bobbles forming in the bottom of the pot (Its got half and half detachable, and a little bit where the coffee powder goes in there. The top part holds the liquid, bottom nothing and/or a bit of coffee powder) I’m wondering if this could be the coffee reacting with the metal? And if so, what metal would it be reacting with, as I’m unsure of the brand name and what metal it’s made from. Thank you.
Do you like italian coffee?
October 6th, 2010Has anyone purchased Lavazzo Filtro Classico regular roast Italian coffee? Was it any good?
October 5th, 2010I just purchased a can of Lavazzo Premium Drip in the red can from a local farmers market. It was described as mild but sweet. I like medium roast coffee, but thought I’d try it. It was awful! I never tasted anything like it. The first sip covered my mouth with an odd, subtly sour taste and it did not taste like coffee. I would like to try the Lavazzo Flitro Classico regular roast coffee, because people were raving about it on Amazon.com. Evidently this is served in high end hotels. There are so many in the Lavazzo line, most are espresso, but I’d like a blend for my morning coffee. Please advise. Thank you!
